This is the Spirit of Truth

HYMN-#393, “Spirit of the Living God”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2t3TfhoNE8

Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.

LITANY OF RESPONSE (Call to Worship)

O Divine Voice,
You sing and the universe comes into being;
O Divine Breath,
You breathe and all things spring to life;
O Divine Word,
You call and creation is sustained;
O Divine Flesh,
You are born among us,
and the Creator is clothed in creation;
O Divine Spirit,
You fill all that has been formed;
O Divine Life,
You are the pulse of all that is.

And so, in amazement and awe, in wonder and celebration
we marvel at this mystery:
In You all things live and move and have being,
In all things, You live and move and express Your Divine artistry;
And so we join with creation
in the eternal song of worship and wonder…Be with us now, visit with us
as we gather this hour to worship and praise You in spirit and truth. Amen.

HYMN # 420- “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”
https://youtu.be/6ph-t8P2r_I

1. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love,
and do what thou wouldst do.

2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
until my heart is pure,
until with thee I will one will,
to do and to endure.

3. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me
glows with thy fire divine.

4. Breathe on me, Breath of God,
so shall I never die,
but live with thee the perfect life
of thine eternity.

OPENING PRAYER: Leader-The Lord be with you
                                    People-And also with you

Holy God, we come together to worship,
a people who would like to think that we love You
with all our hearts and souls,
with all our might, Most of us really do want You to be the one
in whom we live and move and have our being.
We really do want to hear Your voice
above all of the other voices in our lives.
But we get bogged down in the daily routine.
We forget who we are.
We forget who You are.
We forget what the church is supposed to be.

So here we are, standing before You today,
with our human foibles
and our short attention spans,
asking that You would make Yourself known to us,
that You would help us to recognize
the presence of the Holy,
that you would continue to challenge us,
inspire us,
and make us into the people You want us to be. Amen.

Hymn #467- “Trust and Obey”
https://youtu.be/KB4KcleYiWM

1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
READING OF SCRIPTURES:

1 Peter 3:13-22

Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? 14 But even if you do suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear,[a] and do not be intimidated, 15 but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and reverence.[b] Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who abuse you for your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if suffering should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered[c] for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you[d] to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, 20 who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. 21 And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for[e] a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.

John 14:15-21

“If you love me, you will keep[a] my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate,[b] to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in[c] you.
18 “I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”

Hymn #529- “How Firm A Foundation”
https://youtu.be/-x-U3VMYf4g

1. How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in his excellent word!
What more can he say than to you he hath said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
2. “Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
3. “When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
for I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
4. “When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
my grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply;
the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
5. “The soul that on Jesus still leans for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake.”
